respect for principles
Vegetarians and pacifists, to use examples, two groups that act on principle, have made large contributions to Canada’s ethical landscape. They have a lot to teach us, and we hope they'll add strong voices to this website.
Vegetarians and vegans have exposed animal cruelty in our food-supply chain. They've highlighted the massive degradation of the environment that the chemicals in livestock feed crops cause— and the methane pollution that’s a byproduct of animals digesting that food.
Vegetarians consistently champion fresh produce, organic crops, and local farming. They’ve pioneered healthy and enjoyable ways to prepare vegetable dishes, and avidly explored cuisines from around the world. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to appreciate the growing bounty of fresh vegetables and sustainable seafood they’ve helped make available in your local supermarkets.
Pacifists have exposed the corporations that profit from making the weapons that kill so many thousands of civilians each year — and how, after pocketing those profits, these corporations do nothing to help the millions of war refugees. On top of that, they get big tax breaks and taxpayer subsidies for providing jobs! You don’t have to be a pacifist to want victims of war treated fairly, or to support the goal of ending war altogether.
